Welcome to the Youth section of our website where you can keep up to date with events for young people in our parish. We have recently appointed a part time Youth Co-ordinator to facilitate faith based events for parishioners aged between 11-18 years with a team of adult volunteers. She is also building up a programme of events for young adults in the parish based around the Sunday evening Mass as you will see below.
Teresa Carvalho – Youth Co-ordinator
It is a great working here at Ss Peter and Paul’s, one of the first parishes in the Diocese to employ a Youth Coordinator as part of their strategic plan for parish’s mission to engage and involve the youth in this area.
I am an east-end girl, having grown up just down the road in Forest Gate, and have been involved in Youth Ministry throughout the UK and Ireland for some years. I began working in this area with the Sion Catholic Community for Evangelism on the youth mission team, then through developing programmes that encourage young people to enjoy growing in their faith, more recently, I have worked as part of the Brentwood Catholic Youth Service (BCYS) training and resourcing people to get involved in youth ministry.
At the moment I am glad to be working in St Bonaventure’s Comprehensive Boys school as a lay chaplain and now in Ss Peter and Paul’s parish. I have often wondered what could be done for young people with more time than one can give when volunteering in a parish, now I have the chance to find out! With the help and support of what I am getting to know as a very friendly and organised parish it is my hope that through the work we do, we will be able to provide a safe space for young people to come, ask important questions, have fun, and get to know each other, as we grow in faith together, whilst providing opportunities for them to be involved and engaged in parish life.
